about
Much research has been undertaken relating to the outstanding performance of highly successful people in a variety of fields, particularly in sport and the performing arts. In focusing on creative practice in the design related industries, the intention of this research is to better understand the practices of highly acclaimed creative practitioners.
A small sample of select participants from different design disciplines will be interviewed using a phenomenological approach. Interviews will be videoed one-on-one in a semi-structured format to facilitate the practitioners’ reflection on their own practices and lived experiences in the moment. These visual records will be used to create a short documentary film which aims to showcase and make explicit the complexity of practices and experiences that are unique to creative practitioners working at the highest level.
As this approach is exploring previously unchartered territory in the design field, it is anticipated that the findings will provide new insights into leading creative practice which, in turn, may prove to be a valuable resource for design education and the design industry at large.
